Mentoring to Manhood (M2M) is one of the largest mentoring programs responding to the needs of young Black boys in Prince George’s County—impacting the lives of over 100 students every week.
Black boys start behind in our education system and the problem only exacerbates over time if no intervention is made. I’ve shared my personal stories with the boys in Mentoring to Manhood and they get it.
We’ve all heard the African proverb ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ Effective mentoring can only be achieved with community involvement. Successful nonprofits like Mentoring to Manhood offer many ways to become involved and tangible ways to contribute that make a marked difference in the lives of teen boys, their families, and communities.
The strength of our community depends on programs like Mentoring to Manhood. While some believe it’s too late to turn around teen boys, M2M proves what’s possible. Miracles happen every time an adult shows genuine concern and interest for a young boy, enters his world and celebrates his performance and potential. It’s really amazing!
We simply can’t underestimate the value of investing in our young people. Mentoring to Manhood is a great example of a proactive and worthwhile investment that provides an opportunity for boys to grow and thrive rather than to fall down a negative path that’s significantly more costly long term for them, for our communities and for our state.
A cause worthy of enlisting—worthy of investment, given the returns achieved to date. Mentoring to Manhood is unique in it’s ability to breakthrough and earn the confidence of the broader community and area foundations. That’s proof that we should consider and a reason to get involved now.
